Matthew Lumsden
Chief Executive Officer
With 15 years experience in the low carbon energy and transport sectors, Matthew founded Connected Energy to commercialise a range of energy storage and control systems developed by parent company Future Transport Systems. In the emerging energy storage sector, a key focus of Connected Energy is to provide customers with end to end expertise and support in developing their projects.
Matthew worked in the renewable energy sector from 2000 for 10 years as Business Development and Managing Director of energy consultancy TNEI where he also delivered a wide range of projects primarily focussing on the introduction of new clean technologies and business models including marine renewables, biomass systems, small scale/urban wind and electric vehicles. In so doing he realised that electric vehicles represented a potential risk to grid stability as well as a clean technology and environmental opportunity.
In 2009 he founded Future Transport Systems to provide specialist consultancy and project management in the field of electric-mobility with an emphasis on the relationship between electric vehicles and energy networks
In 2014 Matthew founded Connected Energy to provide energy storage systems and operating services.
Matthew has a 1st Class degree in Business Administration and spent his earlier career in sales and marketing in the construction industry.

What I do at Connected Energy...Manage our global supply chain
Sustainability means to me…Not having a detrimental effect on the planet for future generations

I’m proud to work for Connected Energy because…
We’ve taken what could be viewed as a waste product at the end of its useable life in an electric vehicle and through an innovative 2nd life application extract additional value, help reduce carbon emissions and ultimately delay battery pack recycling
In my free time I like to…
Snowboard and can’t wait to get back on the slopes again soon!

Sustainability means to me…
At the heart of sustainability is the need to ensure that all parts of the process result in a positive move towards global decarbonisation. I believe it is important for us to all be looking to the solutions that consider the true lifetime carbon costs of green products, with reusing and recycling being a key part of this.
An interesting fact about me
I love travelling around the world to find the best climbing places.

What I do at Connected EnergyResponsible for business development within the South of England
I’m proud to work for Connected Energy because…the company has a great ethos and is giving a product that uses scarce resources a second life and thus increasing the life of the product.

I think the biggest change we need to see globally in the next five years is...
carbon accountability for large organisations that utilise scarce natural resources and a plastic tax on companies that still manufacture single use plastic.

When living in San Francisco I took part in a mountain bike race & ended up winning the thing 😊
